is my board fried?

I came home last night hearing my computer beeping one loud steady beep (it sounds more like a grind than a beep). There was a storm last night but my mom said that there was not a blip in the power or anything, and the computer am am on now was on and plugged in. So i unplugged things one at a time starting with the hard drives because the beep/grind sounded like a busted hard drive. But it wasnt. Then when i unplugged the graphics card the beeping stopped and i could hear my computer starting up. I put in an old voodoo AGP card (that works) and the beeping starts again. Is my board gone? or could it be sometings else? I have a fairly old MSI K7T Turbo 3. Any suggestions or is it a lost cause.

It does sound like a motherboard but try these steps in order:

1. If you have more than one memory Dimm, pull one out and try to boot, if fails, try it with the other Dimm. No change go to step 2.

2. Disconnect all peripherals (cdrom, drives, etc) and remove all cards except your vid card.
No change go to step 3.

3. Do you have a spare pci video card? Put that in and remove your AGP card.
No change go to step 4.

4. Try a different psupply if you have one.
No change go to step 5.

5. Most likely your motherboard and/or cpu has issues.

As the other gentleman said it might be worth it to pick up a powersupply to test with (that is cheaper than a new motherboard). It looks like your mobo is the culprit though. Maybe a good time to upgrade if you were looking into it at all.

i was going to get a new mobo this summer anyway so ill probably just go ahead and get one. I checked the voltage of the power suppy and the 12v was right on the 5v a little over and the 3.3v a little under.
