Is my Athlon 1.4GHz too hot?

I have an Athlon 1.4GHz, and it is about 46C/114 F degrees(read from CMOS setup) and the system is at 26C/70F when idle. Is this reasonable or high? I am very concerned about it.

Here is my system:

Lian Li PC68, two front fans + one rear fan
Epox 8K7A+ motherboard
512MB crucial non-parity
40GB hard disk
Geforce 2MX video card

Thanks a lot!

Its reasonable, even a little better than average. What kind of HSF to you have?

I have the same motherboard and cpu that you have and my temps are only 10c above the system temps so I am usually at 37 to 38c and in heavy 3d games it goes to maybe 42c. I have a Swiftech MC462 with the Delta 68cfm fan on it, love the Swiftech. Oh I have mine running at 1507 and still getting those temps.

Wow, your cooling is really coooool! Is it easy to change a heat sink and the fan on it? It was not easy when I installed mine above CPU.

I ordered a retail box from newegg.com, and the heat sink came with the CPU. Sorry, I am not sure the brand.

Thanks a lot!

You might try to take a side cover off of your computer and see what the temps are then. If it changes more than about 3 to 4c you may try more case fans, like a blowhole on the sidecover blowing in cool air, also make sure your case fans are set to high speed. The Swiftech MC462 works great but it cost a bunch and it makes noise with the Delta fan on it. You also need to remove the motherboard the first time you install it because it has lugs which bolt to the motherboard and then it mounts with springs and screws to the lugs. that holds it on really well. I would use a shim on my cpu with that heavy of a heatsink also. You can get the stuff at sidewindercomputers.com for prices and more info and no I don't work for them.
