Is my Asus A8N-E broken? Just bought a new system...

Here's my system
Asus A8N-E
Radeon 1900XT
AMD 4400X2
Corsair Valueselect Ram

Here's the problem. I connected the power and everything (which was confusing as ******). I have the DVI->VGA connecter on the videocard, which leads to my monitor. When I boot up my computer everything turns on and the fans spin, but I get no picture. So I assume this is either a videocard or motherboard problem. I don't have any other PCIE express cards, or motherboards to test this with.

Is there anything I can do to narrow down the search for the problem? Is there a possibility it's the cpu?

Someone i asked about this before asked if my motherboard beeped when it booted, it does not, which leads me to believe it's the motherboard.

Also, I was checking out RMAing the motherboard at Newegg, and it says I have to talk to Asus about it, Asus tells me I need to talk to the person that sold it to me 🙁

The motherboard was cheap, atleast!

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

actually if you contact newegg and tell them it was DOA they will rma it for you. i'm wondering if you got a board with an older bios that doesn't support the x2 cpus. i know there were some problems like that with opterons.

Yeah, I was checking that out too. I'm going to a computer store owned by my friends family, I figure I'll just buy a new one if it is infact fried and return the broken one to Newegg. I'll probably have to pay a bit, but it's worth it.

Take it back. I bought mine from NewEgg two weeks ago. It was an Asus A8N-VM that would not POST. The mobo LED lit with the CPU fan on running but nothing else worked. No video out/ no sound from speaker/ no numlock or caps lock from keyboard except that the keyboard leds (numlock,Scroll lock/ caps lock) would blink once upon powering up.
I called Asus which walked me through troubleshooting which ended up with me sending in the board for repair. I am still waitng on the board to come back. HMMMM, seems like Asus is putting out bad mobo's? I have since then purchased as a (temporary) replacement a A8V-MX to get my new system up and running. The only problem is with this mobo is that I occasionally get a halted/jerky keyboard and mouse movement when using my computer, but that's another issue and thread. I hate to dis Asus but I wonder ...
My system specs are 2 gig ram/200gig WD hard drive/3700AMD processor

Yeah, I figure I'll buy one retail from the computer shop, have them install it (they're nice guys from what I've dealt with them). Then return this broken one for a refund. I don't mind having to pay a bit so I don't have to wait.

When I purchased my replacement A8V-MX the store owners told me they heard of a lot of problems with NewEgg and bad parts. Particularly with Asus Mobo's. I just think Asus had a bad run with this line. This is probably my 8th mobo from Asus I have built computers out of and this is the second time I have had a bad board (10 year timeframe).
I just hate the fact that you have to remove the dang CPU and CPU fan from the mobo and re-heatsink the fan and CPU without damaging anything. It used to be so easy. PLus I do not have the time I use to have to devote to pulling out a motherboard from a case after I have set everything up the first time. Arrgggh. This stuff use to be fun to me.

the one i got from newegg looked as if it had been opened already (possibly return?). they took it back without question tho, which was a relief.

Man, I remember when I built my first computer from newegg 3 years ago (almost exact) the asus mobo I got then was slightly defective...

Probably should have learned from that.

Swap the ram. Unplug everything that is attached to the mobo cept power. try to boot the machine at the minimum amount of cords leading to the machine. that way you can start to narrow down the problem

I haven't really bought anything extra since 2002 or whenever I built the old computer

Anyways, here's an update.

I took it into a local shop, the dude was kinda mean and probably wasn't much of an expert. Anyways, he insists it's the motherboard, so I ordered a new one, and I'm RMAing the old one (I don't want to wait). Then since we already paid the $40 deposit I'm going to have him put the system together, just to be sure.
