Is my Aopen CDRW DEAD???

I just finished putting my new computer together a couple of weeks ago (specs below), and this weekend I decided to transfer my Aopen 1232a (12x) burner from the old computer to the new one.

Well, I transfered the CDRW and all was going well, it was dected in the bios, and detected in Windows XP. However when I put in an audio CD, or any CD for the matter, it would not read it. All that would happen is that an empty window would pop up and the CDRW wouldn't actually read the disc.

I then installed the latest firmware upgrade. After many, many reboots (during which it took a lot of time for the bios to detect the drive) I finally got an audio CD to work, but only for about half a minute. After 1/2 min I could hear the disc spinning down and coming to a halt. Also, the drive was abnormally noisy while playing the CD. After it had spun down, my computer frooze....

So what happened? Is my burner dead?

kinda sounds dead.... can you put it back in your old system to see if it works there?

have you double checked the jumper settings/cables/power?
