Is my AMD XP3000 dead?

As I was taking my old rig apart to sell it off, I noticed the AMD Barton core was chipped many times. I am at a loss on how it happened as I used a shim and put it on evenly never held the board by the heatsink or bumped the heat sink when it was in use. The computer was working fine when I turned it off before I took it apart. Other than at a loss on how this happened, I was wondering if the damage is too great to be able to sell this as a working item. I already have the motherboard packed away and I don't want to take the chance to damage the core more if I were doing something wrong. The heatsink bottom is clean and flat with no marks.

So:

1. Is the damage too great to sell as a working unit?

2. How could damage like this happen? It was still in the socket when I found it that way.

I found a puter in the trash, it had a Barton in it that had a large chip off the corner. When I put it in a working board it ran and oc'd like a champ. I guess you won't know unless you try the chip, but i would say it is a good chance that it still works. those bartons were tough.

Quite awhile back I sold an unlocked Barton 2800+ on FS/FT that had a corner cracked off but ran perfectly, of course I listed it with a 100% accurate description & provided pictures so the buyer knew exactly what he was getting.

I think if you want to sell it you'll need to either break out the MB & test it or sell it as potentially DOA/"as-is" for a very low price.
