Is my 8800GTS 320MB card dead??

Hey all,

Whenever I'm not gaming or watching a movie or so, I'm usually running a Folding@Home GPU client on my 8800GTS 320MB card for TeAm AnandTech.

I went out yesterday, leaving it to run as usual but when I came back, I noticed that the entire system was frozen. No response to anything. I had to hit the reset button to make the system reboot.

When I did that, the first thing I realized was some green vertical lines on the Rampage Formula screen and then some red ones in the post screen. When the Windows Vista load screen came up, there were some gray lines. After the load screen flicked off, the gray lines remained but then there was nothing else happening. The HDD activity LED went off and nothing else happened.

I rebooted, reset, cold booted, I tried several things and nothing worked. I then swapped out the GTS for a "spare" 8400GS I had lying around and everything booted fine, no lines, no problems.

Is my GTS dead???
Is there a solution to get it working (properly) again??

Please help!!!

The card is dead. RMA is the only thing you can do.

RMA is totally out of the question I think. I've had this card since July or August 2007.

So? You have 3 years warranty on it, don't you?

It depends on the brand, and some require that you register the card within a certain timeframe after buying the card, or you'll only have a one year warranty.

You can upgrade to a 9600GT 512MB pretty cheap, or perhaps a 4850 or so. But yeah, that card sounds cooked Sorry.

Bout the only thing to do is let someone try it in a different system.

Well, I was planning on getting a 4870 1GB card around Black Friday but obviously I won't be able to wait until then, so I might just pull the trigger in about a half an hour or so.

I really wanted the SAPPHIRE 4870 1GB Toxic Edition card but that went OOS just about an hour before I decided to just buy a new card.

Which of the other cards would you guys suggest from here??

Well guys, I pulled the trigger on the HIS 4870 1GB.

I think its a good card and I don't really think I'll be missing anything from the Toxic. Give me your thoughts please and thanks.

Nice card. Or you could've gone for the X2 and given your PSU a run at over 50% output.

While that would have been really nice......that is also way over my budget so...I think the 4870 1GB card will last me for a long time.

I might just CrossFire it next year when the 4870 1GB can be had for under $200...

At least I know my PSU can manage.
