Is my 8800GT finally dead?

I fired up my old HP rig yesterday just for kicks (Athlon 64 4000+, 3GB RAM, 8800GT 512 MB), and started getting dramatic visual artifacts even at POST. Once I get into Windows the screen displays weird colors and the computer locks up.

I took out the 8800GT from there and put it into my new rig (in sig) and still get the same issues. :( I was hoping to use the card as a PhysX card with my 5870, but it seems the 8800GT has bit the dust. I've heard of the old "oven trick". Would it work in cases like this?

Sounds like it, assuming your out of warranty it couldn't hurt to try the oven trick.

the oven trick works!! I've done it a couple times before. 400 for like 6-7 minutes then open the door and let it cool for 25-30 miutes. Do not move the card of wiggle it or anything when you open the door , components WILL fall off if you subject the card to a excessive shock

bake it. if it starts working again then ebay it before it goes out again. There is no set timetable on the effectiveness of baking, but typically it's anywhere from a week to forever (assuming it survives). use the $$ you get selling it to snag a deal on a gt 240 or something similar.

I assume I'll have to peel off the BFG sticker before baking it, right? Don't want to start any fires, heh.

Actually, you remove the heatsink before you put it in the oven. Im sure there are guides out there.
