Hi guys,

I got a new Pc with a sapphire 5970 a few weeks ago, the PC worked fine, but i noticed it crashing after closing games. So i read it up, and found out quite a few 5970's have this problem.

The general soloution is supposedly OCing the card, so it's 2d clocks are high enough be stable, though this voids your warranty. So i decided to RMA it, thinking they wouldnt ship out requiring an OC.

Got an OC version as a replacement, and it had the exact same problem, so i OC'ed it, didnt help. The Fix i've currently got is having a really small furmark constantly running while not gaming, till now its worked fine. Problem is that right now furmark even at 50x50 resoloutions uses up 25% of the cpu, and the card is rather loud while surfing/watching movies (and i guess its using like 50watts more than it should idle at).

so my questions are;

Was i super unlucky and got 2 faulty cards, or is it standard procedure to OC 5970's(which i can't believe), if so should i rma it?

and if i cant find an awnser to that, anyone know of simpler 3d rendering programs i can have running in the background that dont use as much power as furmark, & prefferably not a game, its nice having a furmark .bat in the startup.

sry for my bad english, havn't written in years.

No, just google 2d clock profile for the ATI and you are set.

Ah forgot to mention, i've tried it and it didn't work

well i'll try a diffrent one & report if it works, 300MHz instead of 157MHz,

Doesn't sound like a card issue. You should have reinstalled Windows before attempting to RMA it in the first place. Ugh.. with Windows, any crash is possible.

you sure about that?

If so why is it identical to other peoples bug with the underclocked core?

These cards do seem to have bugs or issues depends on how you look at it. Not for the faint at heart. Your gonna just have to read alot and troubleshoot it. Sounds like windows issue. Maybe Ira conflict or sharing?

I'd suggest if your not a hard core computer tweaking mo fo to not even get one :)
