Is MSG harmful?

MSG is monosodium glutamate, so yes it contains sodium but not sodium chloride salt as in the food flavor - or what many folks call sodium. MSG is a salt of glutamatic acid which is an amino acid bound within other proteins and is the source of umami , which is considered the fifth taste after sweet, sour, bitter, and salty.

Now saying that, I do not know if companies pack MSG with table salt as a mixture.

whenver I eat the chinese food with the MSG in it I am thirstier than a MoFo for the rest of the day, that's all I know about it. I don't get sick or headaches or anything though, and I imagine a lot of salt would do something similar.

That could be due to the TREMENDOUS AMOUNTS OF SODIUM present in all Chinese cooking.

well sorta, unless you eat at fresh choice all the time, any restaurant food is heavily seasoned and filled with a lotta fat. obviously because this tastes good😛

it's not harmful unless you are allergic to it.

it makes things taste better but sometimes they overdo it and the food tastes crappy b/c it tastes unnatural...
