The interesting aspect of all of this is how quickly everyone acts as if Microsoft is the spawn of Satan.
If MS REALLY had wanted to kill OpenGL, all they would have needed to do would be to wait until the OpenGL standard including their technology had been approved, and then claimed patent violation.
Instead, they did what's been previously done by the other corporations involved -- offered royalty free licensing in exchange for technology from other groups -- ie, we'll let you play with something we've developed if you let us play with something you've developed. Which is, really, a perfectly reasonable request... but because it comes from MS, everyone immediately calls foul.
