Hi,

This is a question on an old motherboard (Gigabyte GA-7VAX) which I have been using for a bit more than a year. Yesterday morning, I left it on to run the FTP server (which I do very frequently, the site usage is very light, nothing very CPU/disk intensive) and when I came back in the evening, I found that the computer didn't respond anymore and the LEDs were all on (CD-ROM's, HD, Pwr). Turning the computer off and then on, even the BIOS didn't come up. No beeps or whatsoever. When I opened the case, the motherboard fan is dead (the CPU one is running), but an orange LED on the board is still on.

Does it mean the board is done?? :(

Thanks for your help.:Q:confused:

Do a test on the motherboard make sure the power supply isnt the problem. Try undoing everything from the motherboard and trying to get it to at least respond, and once it does, then add each peripheral until you find the problem hindering your board. If the board doesnt respond to the new power supply, then you know right off the bat, that the board is fried.

Thanks!! It is the power supply, and I am getting it replaced very soon.

I am new in the power supply area...but if it is fried, shouldn't my computer have no response at all? I am curious why there is still some electricity flowing through.

Thanks again.:D

Naw, sucky power supplies are the cause of more problems than any other single item. Since the computer powers up, everyone figures it's fine, until the computer starts acting up.

I agree. I get scared when I see cases being sold for $18 at computer shows and wonder what kind of power supply they come with.
