Is monitor a better determiner of display quality than graphics card?

Having thoughts about getting a monitor for a notebook and connecting it via hdmi when I'm non mobile

Can be. Horrible shaders will make a game look awful on any setup (e.g, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas), for example.

And a cheap screen won't be anywhere near as...Vibrant? As a decent screen.

I put image quality as 99% monitor with any half decent modern GPU.

Changed my monitor from cheap 23" TN 1080p 60Hz made in 2011, to IPS 27" 1440p 144Hz. It was such a big difference. Motions are crystal clear.

O yeah!Though the new generation gpu's all have much better rendering than the previous ones, but yes, a 144Hz 27inch monitor with 1ms response time would be best for your viewing and gaming pleasure, compared to a 60hz lower quality 4/5ms response time monitor. Also high end monitors can show a wider range of colors, though it has to be GPU and port supported like HDMI 2.1.

The greatest monitor in the world won't make Quake 3 look better than Crysis. You have to have at least a modern GPU that can run at least medium settings before i'd worry about spending a lot on a monitor.

You will want to buy a quality monitor, as it will last you a very long time if you get a good one (4+ years) but you will also need a good GPU to run it.

Advancements in monitor quality have been slow and the only reason to upgrade would be to buy a bigger one, though personally I play more competitive games like Dota2 and CS:GO, so ALL monitors over 24inches make it worse for my gameplay. In fact the best one for me is 23inch, over that and I find I have to more further away for a full view and then my mouse and game coordination worsens.

Big monitor is great if you play casually, mostly slower games on their solo campaigns.

whats the highest res 17 inch monitor i can connect to a laptop via hdmi? I agree with you, coordination is less on point with big screens. I've played on both a 15inch screen and a 24inch screen. My competitve edge is with the 15inch screen over the 24inh monitor. more screen= more to focus on/ Tho my 15 inch screen is dated with regards to display quality

EDIT: it could also be the regular connection. Is there a difference between the regular connection and the hdmi?
