Is MonarchJoe still about?

I had been saving for quite a while, and waiting for dual-core processors to be released, and once they were I felt I'd be too impatient to put it together myself and so ordered from Monarch (how's that for irony!?!). Hey, the price was right.

Anyway, it was only after I had placed my order that I discovered forums at the Monarch website with all of these complaints about complete systems taking so long to ship. I did a search and found some threads here with a rep by name of MonarchJoe, and I e-mailed him directly. But that's been almost 24 hours ago and I still haven't gotten a response.

I placed my order (AMD Athlon 64 4400+ based system) on 9/07/2005. It's supposed to ship out by 9/26, but I have no real faith that it will. It's supposedly going to undergo about 3 or 4 days' worth of testing and diagnostics before shipment. The online order status system at Monarch is all screwed up and doesn't really reflect much at all. I figure if my machine is going to undergo 3 to 4 days of testing before shipment on 9/26 (Monday), then it ought to at least be together by now, and that's what I'm trying to confirm. I don't mind waiting a few extra days, but waiting a month and a half (as some reportedly are having to do) just ain't gonna happen.

Anyone else with recent whole-system experiences with Monarch. Has anyone communicated with "Joe" recently?

If you paid by credit card your risk is zero. Has the card been charged? If it hasn't then tell them you want an updated ship date or you want to cancel. If it has been charged tell them you want an updated ship date or your calling your bank to dispute. Disputed charges are a huge pain in the tail for smaller merchants.

That was likely a mistake.

You could just sit back and wait it out. You might get lucky and have it ship this month, but realistcally you should probably expect it the second week of October.
Then it will probaly fail to boot after a day or so. Then another week emailing tech suppot back and forth. Then you'll send the entire unt back for repair. 3 weeks later you might have a working PC. So by mid November you could possibly have a working PC.

If it were me, I would tell them if it doesn't ship on the 13th business day your are going to cancel. Then when it doesn't ship, just cancel the order, buy the parts from somewhere else and build it yourself.

Well, I've posted at the Monarch forums asking where Joe is, and I still haven't received a reply to my e-mail.

Unfortunately, I've heard that getting refunds out of Monarch is like pulling teeth.

Of course it is. Once they have your money, they want to keep it. that's why you pay with a CC so you can simply dispute the charge with them, and let them tangle with Monarch.

No sure about exact Paypal rules in this situation, but you need to look into it. If Monarch can't deliver the product in the agreed upon time, then it would seem that Paypal could then dispute the charge on your behalf.

PayPal does have consumer protections in place now that come pretty close to what the card companies have to offer.

I think you have 60 days to file a dispute with PayPal. You could do it now & get your money back within a week most likely.

If you want to claim with Paypal DO NOT WAIT. They will "get you" that way, in their "30 day limit" or whatever amount of days it is.

Ok, thanks. I've taken the initial step of e-mailing PayPal to see what they can do for me and what steps I need to take.

I must stress that my computer isn't late yet. I don't want to bash a company. But if I don't hear something from their CSRs by week's end, I will most likely cancel.

Sucks they're taking so long. I got a system last August ('04) from them and it was at my doorstep in about a week.

I received all my new current parts from them, and they shipped fast w/ great care. If I was to order a whole new custom desktop... I may think twice about ordering it from them. Of course, I like to just do the upgrades myself now so it's not really an issue for me anymore.

Yeah good luck on the emailing. I emailed them twice in regards to my late shipping order and never got a reply. Monarch maybe cheap, but they are not very dependable.

Well, I heard from Joe! He apologized and said he'd been out of the office. He says my machine should be entering the "burn-in" phase as early as tomorrow afternoon, so with any luck it should ship out sometime next week, and with FedEx 2-Day it might even reach me by the end of next week.

Here's hoping! 🙂
