Is Mixing Memory Bad?

I have 256MB PC2100 generic and I was thinking of increasing that. I was wondering if its unstable to mix that with say 256MB of Mushkin 2100 or 2700?
And thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

It woudln't neccessarily be unstable--it would probably work just fine--although, your new Mushkin 2100 or 2700 memory would be limited to speed of your older Generic PC2100 memory--which would hinder your overall system performance increase by 5-10%

I 2nd what the last post said, you'll be limited to your Generic PC 2100's speed, but other than that only in fairly rare cases do different memory brands cause issues, you should be fine adding more memory. Hope this helps....:)

Thank you both very much. I went out and grabbed another 256MB and its running fine.
Again, thanks for helping a brother out!
