Is mixing different brands of motor oil ok?

I have 3 bottles of Castrol 10W30 and 3 bottles of Valvoline 10W30. Could I use both of them the next time I change my oil, or should I just buy another case of one of them for consistency?

Are they both conventional (not synthetics or anything strange)? If so, I see no reason why you can't mix them.

As long as they're the same weight (and it appears they are), you're fine. You could even mix syntho and dino if you had that/wanted to. If you're still under warranty, check your manufacturers' recommendations (just to be safe).

Yeah both are regular motor oils. I had bought a case of Castrol awhile back, then picked up some Valvoline cuz that was on sale, and the 3 bottles are the leftovers from each of those cases. Both are 10W30, which is what's recommended for my car. The only difference is just that it's 2 different companies.

You will be fine. Over 90% of all motor oil is made by Exxon/Mobil. Castrol and most other "Oil companies" have no true refineries, so they just buy their oils.

But I will say, castrol has the best marketing, and charges for it. 😉
