Is memory timing really THAT important?

My ram is running at 2,5-3-3-8. When I read articles over the net i seems like a slow timing. But how much does it matters ofr the overall system speed?
For exemple someone like me who the most intensive application is gaming.

I depends some on what cpu you are using, but for most people, timings don't make any real noticable differance. May get you a few FPS more in some games, and give you a better benchmark score, but real world differance will not likely be noticable.

answer: no its not. people are just really picky that get into computer hardware. gotta have the best, even if that doesnt mean much over having whats "good", or what works.

if you can get better timed memory for the same price as a higher latency memory, great.. if not, it doesnt matter.

it might on the new ddr2 stuff used on intel boards.. i dont know there. generally though, all consumer ram seems to be of decent timings, nothing you can buy is going to be some system slowing goo.
