Is memory speed dependant on the CPU speed?

Guys, is memory somehow linked to CPU speed?

If I want to run memory at 2400Mhz would I need some crazy CPU overclock ?

not at all, but the bandwidth achieved improves with higher cpu clock speed.

It was for K8 but for today's CPUs its linked to FSB/BCLK/HTT speed. If there isn't a multiplier high enough to reach the desired memory speed you will have to overclock.
