Is memory controler broken???

k lets hope this makes sense....

im running a 3200 90nm winnie not overclocked (it wont past 2.1  ) , a K8N Neo2 Plat, and some OCZ Plat EL rev2 (i think...I know its rev 2 and i knwo its EL) and im giving it 2.75 volts. anyway this memory refuses to run in dual channel at any speed or timings. it will run 1T/2T at 2T but when i go to 1T it will only run at 100Mhz, i have tried the memory in every combination possable and still nothing. ive read and reread the msi manual for the mobo. i thought it was the mobo's fault so i sent it back to have it looked at and fixed. i just got it back and its doing the same thing. now i just realized the memcontroler is on the chip w/ amd64 (right???) could the chips mem controler be messedup???

hmm, u have another board to test the chip on, or a diff chip to try on your board...that would let you isolate the issue...

naw this is my first computer build and i dont have another amd system to check it on. the only other comps i have are intel and the mem works fine in them

dumb question, but you did lower the HTT multi when OCing right? i know iv overlooked that a few times until realizing it...for the dual channel.....thats a problem...have you tried downlocking your multi and see if it works @ say 1.4 gzh....if so, it might be a bad mem controller...very plausible

Uhm, running anything but stock speeds is just bonus. Some get lucky, some don't. If it runs fine at stock speed you're just unlucky, but the chip works like it should.

this problem is happening when its NOT OVERCLOCKED

at stock speeds and stock multi (dont know what that is to change??? is that HT or is that the 100,133,166,200 Mhz thing on the mem timings)

Sorry it's late over here 😛

this also may seem like a dumb question, but when you went back to stock speeds from overclocking, did you do it manually, or use CMOS jumper? if you did it manually i would try resetting CMOS.. (just realized that its been doing this the whole time).. anyway, when you sent the mobo back, did they say anything was wrong with it?

to be honest i wouldn't be to worried about running in dual channel, as its not that big of a deal with the a64s.. with the ondie mem controller being more efficient, single channel ram doesn't create a bottleneck in a64 systems like it does with P4s.. i seriously doubt you'd notice a difference without some benchmarking tools.

yes i had reset the cmos each time i tried the ram in a diff position. the DC isnt the thing i dont like alot. what is frusterating me is it refuses to run at 1T . DC would be nice tho
