Is *member* a bad trader? *edit* no, he's not

*edit* As an update, I have received a tracking number and an explanation regarding a personal situation. At this point I think it's safe to say that the person I have been dealing with is an excellent trader and something just came up. I will update you all when the card arrives.

The original post is below.

------------------------------------------------------------------

I purchased a 7970 from *member* last week. I paid him last Thursday via PayPal and he still has not given me any sort of shipping confirmation or tracking number. The last time I heard from him was on Monday. He said he had the card boxed up and he was going to ship it out on Tuesday. I have not heard from him since then. I have sent him several emails and PMs with no reply.

At this point I'm growing very frustrated and concerned that he may be scamming me. He asked me to use the "gift" option in PayPal as well which makes me wonder.

If there is anything that the mods or the other members on here can do I would greatly appreciate it. At this point I'm out $260 and it's not a nice feeling.

Should I be opening a claim at PayPal at this point? I feel as though I have been very patient waiting this long before taking action.

Any input you guys have would be appreciated.

I didn't put it through as a gift payment. I put it through as "personal". Is that the same thing?

Yes. And really you're not supposed to use it to pay for merchandise. 🙁

Here's the sticky in FS/FT that's titled "~~~ FORUM NOTICE ~~ Do NOT pay through PayPal as a "personal payment" or gift! ~~~ "

Here's Paypal's description of the payment options and what they are to be used for, and here's what FS/FT rules have to say about it:

"It is also against PayPal's terms of service to send a personal or gift payment for merchandise. This is also bad, because if something were to happen, NEITHER party has any recourse through PayPal should a dispute arise."

<member> has not visited here since 7/29, although that shouldn't interfere with responding to emails. He has no record at all here of ANY trading problems.

I have sent him an email and a PM requesting him to get in touch with you ASAP with tracking information.

Thanks for that allisolm. It was <member> who requested that I "gift" him the payment but I was not comfortable with that. I didn't think I would have issues; he has an extensive trading history and has been a member here for about 10 years. I have definitely learned my lesson here.

Hopefully <member> will come through and resolve this. The thing is he sold 3 of these cards through that thread. Perhaps the other buyers can come out and share some feedback.

So the seller has explained a situation and says that he will send the card out tomorrow. Thanks everyone for the support. I will hopefully report back tomorrow with a tracking number.

Don't leave us hanging, did you receive a tracking number or the video card yet?

He gave me a tracking number and has been responding to a few emails I have sent him. According to the USPS the card is in NYC right now and I should have it next week.

At this point I am 99.9% convinced that he is an excellent trader and something just came up.

I have edited the OP to reflect that.
