I have both of these players blocked from using the internet when I'm online but they always go into a error. When I'm offline they work just fine. Both players always ask for permision for access to the internet but when I say "NO" they create a error and the program closes.
I have tested this 50 times and it always closes with a error message.

I don't need to download any codec for the files I'm using there just basic mpg's that play fine when offline.

It is spyware yes.

Just as Realjukebox, every client has a unique identification number. Last time I heard, M$ sweared they've never used it yet. Seems they're doing now then. Basicly, they get statistics on your usage of the player. Nothing more, nothing less (that's what they say, do you believe M$ ?).

You should try using a freeware program called Ad Aware. It is made by lavasoft. You can download it here. This program checks your registry and the files on your computer for different kinds of spyware. I've used OptOut, another good program, but Ad Aware found some registry keys that OptOut missed.

iNo712, thanks for the headsup. I tried AdAware and it found a couple entries. One of the entries was comet cursor, damn I hate that thing. Anyone else know what I'm talking about? I don't know how it gets on my machine but it's a POS!

Yeah I have Ad Aware for awhile just DL the new 4.0 version. It doesn't solve the problem that if your online and you try to launch media 6.4 it ask for permission to access the internet and if don't allow it, it just goes into a error. BTW I'm using ZoneAlarm which is a free desktop firewall.

Yeah, I noticed Comet Cursor on one of our work pc's and on a friend's this weekend. Any idea where this crape comes from? I don't recall an uninstall for it, but I did find some reg entries that I trashed.

I think that certain websites "offer it" as a cool piece of software (like it's some kind of bonus) The only problem is, they don't offer, they just shove it down!

Here's how to fix that error...

Open up Media Player 7

Go to Tools/Options and uncheck all boxes under internet settings then uncheck 'Start Player in Media Guide'

Now your Media player no longer tries to access the 'net on startup and you have disabled the GUID for your computer.
