Is McCain running for President in 2012?

I think McCain is still thinking he has a shot at President in 2012.
Gramps would be 76 in 2012 and Reagan was about 78 when he left office.

In watching McCains actions since lost, I have noticed he has not assumed the "maverick" role he kept saying he was. This most recent outburst where he criticized Obama for not attacking the Iranian leaders was certainly ill advised. After all, if Obama came out strongly for the moderates it would be like Bin Laden coming out for an American candidate.

So whats Gramps game?

I think McCain is trying to reverse his strategy from 2008. In 2008 he was about the only "moderate" or at least not wacky, right wing candidate from the Senate.
Yet, instead of charting a moderate course in the campaign, he basically sold out to the furthest right wing of his party. And McCain lost the independents.

I think Gramps strategy for 2012 is to suck up to the right wing for the next couple of years. Then as the election gets closer the "maverick" McCain will re-emerge. With right wing wingnuts like Foxy Mommie and "intelligent designer" Sam Brownback, the only serious candidate who might get the few Republican moderate vote is Romney. So Gramps may think he could beat the Republican right wing fest of candidates and snare the nomination. And after 4 years of Obama, McCain could basically say to the right wing if they don't him, are they really prepared to sit it out and let Obama cruise?

Without Bush around his neck, and running as a moderate Republican, Gramps may think he has a chance. He may even announce he will be a one term Pres. to put peoples mind at ease that he might go more senile than he is.

He is the unoffical spokesman for the party.

Just like from 2001-2009; the Dems had no one that was really in charge as a viable candidate. Gore was tarnished and Kerry became tarnished also.

Clinton was not speaking up so Ted Kennedy stepped in as the senior spoksman

The moderate 'maverick' thing that republicans keep on saying was the reason mccain lost is complete bullshit. The very first thing mccain did to shed his 'moderate' image was embrace jerry falwell at liberty u after he had denounced him years before. Then he had his 'bomb bomb bomb iran' thing to feed red meat to the crowd. That plus he flipped flopped on the torture thing, which was real sad.

His warming up to Democrats to support them in certain liberal policies is exactly why I did not vote for John McCain. A candidate can stand up for conservatism or GTFO. I was not having another pro-government neocon in office.

That's sadly true.

If McCain/2000 had run in 2008 he would have had a lot more support (and wouldn't have gone with that VP selection ...)

if McCain had gone with the VP selection he wanted, the GOP would have forced a floor vote and forced Romney on him.

whether or not that would have been better than Palin, idk.

How many of the extreme right wing wackos would have stayed home if McCain had picked Romney over Foxy Mommy? Some, I guess. But he lost far, far more votes of moderates, and people who, I don't know, think a VP candidate shoud have something more going for them but T&A.

Why in the world would you want to run for president at 76? That is insane. Why don't these political freaks go retire or something? I guess they love power too much.

It's a serious post on whether McCain is going to run again.
Have you SEEN how anti-Obama posts begin?
I have raised a serious issue. Apparently some Republicans would like to forget the election of 2008.

Serious in what way? Because in your infantile mind you have put together a story about McCain running in 2012? Nobody takes that seriously.

Techs:

I think you are trying to create a wish list instead of looking at the practicality.

Unless Obama really stumbles and Republicans do not have anyone that wants to step forward; will be the only way McCain will accept the mantle for another run.

What is the last candidate from either side that did a legit retry after being defeated. You have to look back 40+ years to Nixon.

The Scarlett letter is to much.

I think it was the constant calling him Gramps and then talking about right wing wingnuts that was the cue you should have used to know he was serious.

McCain was a good candidate at first, but even most Republicans saw how he sold out to the far right in an effort to get what he mistakenly saw as the majority of the voting population. He was trying to pull off what Bush pulled off, and I'm convinced nobody will ever be able to replicate that. If McCain had stayed true to what he was, he really would have given Obama a run for his money, because McCain wasn't really even a Republican, he was moderate. Anyways, for the Republicans, it would be smart to sit back and see how Obama does over the next 2 years. If he does really well, I hope we put McCain back up again, because any good candidate needs to be saved for the next election, plus Obama really isn't so bad at all (he's at least likeable, and I think he truly believes in what he's doing which counts for alot). The 2016 election is what we need to be worrying about, unless Obama flat out falls on his face, which he might.

But in any case, I doubt that anyone supporting McCain actually expects him to win the next election, if he even runs at all.

Why can't you refer to him as Senator McCain or John? You don't have to like him to pay him the respect that you'd pay anyone else on the street.

If you could step out of your 12 year old troll mentality, you might have something to say worth listening to.
