Is McAfee the Only Working Antivirus Software?

Is McAfee the only Antivirus software that works?

Reason I ask.

I have had F-Prot installed all latest updates and never found a virus, well once caught a email attachment but it was never opened and it cleaned it promptly.

I now have Panda Titanium installed all latest updates and it too has not found any virus/trojans on my comp.

I have found nothing on my system with either.

I even tried Trend Micros online virus scanner and found nothing.

However I decided to try Mcafees online scan earlier just to see what it was like.

It claims I have W32/Spybot.worm.gen in a zip file I downloaded today. I have tried to find more info on this but it seems only McAfee has it listed.

Another strange thing. I have scanned this file over and over with the other three AV products and all are saying there is no virus/worm.

Is McAfee right? Or just misinforming. Why does no other Antivirus site list that worm other than McAfee?

If it is a actual worm is there another program I can use to clean it. I have watched my firewall closely and have had no unexpected traffic so am very confused right now.

Any Advice?

Symantec lists it, as does Sophos... I also found "about 355" results on Google. not that I personally checked each for relevance, but it seems the information is out there to find...

Do any of the scanners you tried scan within zip files? Do they do so by default, or do you need to enable this? Online virus scanners may not scan inside zip files, I'm not sure.

Yes they do scan within zip files.

I have also extracted the files and scanned them while extracted as well.

There is one executeable within the files. I did execute that file earlier.

The funny thing is, if there was a worm in it, I should have gotten it once I executed that file. But according to McAfee only that zip file and the extracted executeable contain the worm.

I have done a full search with all programs quite a few times now. I deleted the zip file and the extracted files.

I rescanned with Mcafee and it does not report any virus/worms and it does scan within zip files.

I am thinking this was a mis hit by Mcafee. Otherwise I should have the worm and Mcafee should of found it.

As far as why I stated it that Mcafee was the only one discovering it, I checked several Antivirus websites and none of them listed this specific wording for a worm W32/Spybot.worm.gen. I even searched google. But every site I checked on Google was leading back to Mcafee.

I did not try Nortons site. Not a big fan of them in the past as they were quite the system hog and I did have them miss a virus in the past that F-Prot picked up.

Right now I do not know if I have a worm or not. Since I deleted the files all scanners are saying I do not. But since I executed the file that Mcafee said was infected I am a bit worried now. Honestly not sure what to do. Still not suspicous activity on my Firewall and nothing strange popping up under active processes.
