I'm talking about taking sound bits and dialouge from movies...I was just wondering if it's legal to make your own WAVs from shows taped and such? Just a simple question, thanks!

I believe it depends on how they're used, but generally no. Grabbing a 3s clip from a movie to have as a startup sound for your PC isn't going to get you into trouble, but using a 30s wav as the audio backdrop for a TV commercial might.

Plus there's that whole issue of "sampling" which is a legal grey area. If it were that bad, many rap artist would be in big trouble.

Nope, but it's safe to assume that nobody will care if you post something like the Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise song up, as long as you don't try to financially profit.
