Is Madden 2009 as bad as 2008 for control and layout?

I love Madden 2007 on PS2. Controls are easy to use and the interface is clean and user friendly but then came 2008 on PS3. Buttons everywhere, the create a player interface was horrid, the saving options were frustrating (can only save created players and rosters pre-franchise mode? Blow me). Gameplay controls were also more confusing. I know there are new juke and stiff arm moves, but why did you have to change a existing good working control scheme and tangle it all up just to add in these new features? I hate having to re-learn the SAME GAME OVER AGAIN.
