Is lying to the police a crime?

Providing false information to the police is a crime, but in your case, it's going to be hard to prove that you're lying, unlike a case where the police ask for your name and address.

lying under oath is perjury , which is a crime

lying as part of a criminal investigation could be obstruction of justice, which is a crime

you have the right not to incriminate yourself, but if you use that when you haven't been arrested, they can then hold or arrest you for some period of time that will greatly inconvienance you and/or require you to get a lawyer which will cost you some $$$

You get pulled over, and the cop asked you where u were going. I didn't feel like explaining why I'm in his state so i just said i'm passing thru to my parent's place in the next state.

Failing to tell the cop where you are headed does not give them any justification in an arrest in and of itself. There must be mitigating circumstances.

No it's not. Most conversations are recorded.

And this is legal how?

It's common knowledge that all police have microphones on them, recording their conversations, just as they have video cameras on the dash of their cars... It's legal because there's not a law against them doing so. Is it constitutional though, that's the question.
The police officers at the department I work at do not wear wireless microphones. And they JUST got video cameras in the cars last year. Before that, there was no recorded evidence of traffic stops.

Uh, Mr.Clinton was almost impeached for lying....

I'm sure its a crime, though I don't think anyone would care in your case.

If you lie in court or something, then yes, thats probally another couple of years.

hmm didnt clinton GET impeached for lying under oath?
Uh.. What do you think?

yea..and look at what i qouted. he states ALMOST impeached for lying..just pointing out the truth.
...

What rock do you live under? 😛

Clinton was not impeached. If he was, we would've heard a LOT more about it......

Plus the fact that Al Gore would've been president for the remainder of the term. 😛

Boy! my rock must be right next door to you! 😀

heh as others have pointed out he was impeached but not convicted.
