Is LOTR CGI or not?

There are large elements of CGI used in the battles and for monsters/effects. However most of the movie is tradional people/acting/scenery/sets

What kind of boneheaded bozo told you that? They spent a year and a half filming the damn thing!

<< I thought I read somewhere that LOTR was completly CGI... is it or not? >>

OMG!!! OH NO! AIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! NOOOOOO!O!OO!O!!!!

BAHAHAHA, now that was silly

Actually, while it was indeed filmed actors and sets, very little of the film was not digitally retouched. From making the hobbits small, to the fantastic landscapes/locations, to the multitudes of monsters that weren't painted guys, to the completely computer generated scenes like the party running out of Moria. (That last one really, really sucked.)

The excessive bad CGI work was one of the things I really hated about the film.

One of the scenes that sticks out was the boats going past the pillars of the kings. They show the statues, great. Then they show a close up. Then they show a fly-by. Then they show a closeup fly-by. It was like the CG crew was like, "well we built 'em, lets use up some feet of film."

They really could have shortened the film by at least half an hour. I'll give them credit though, the movie wasn't nearly as long and tedious as the book.

To me it was more like "lets show the magnificence of this creation by Men," but whatever...to each his own.

<< that has to be the stupidest thing ive heard this year. >>

I couldn't help but laugh out loud at this....ROFL!!! "this year" ahahaha.. 🙂

Yes, but the point is that scene is all CGI, which you ridiculed the poster for asking. It would be interesting to compare what percentage of FOTR is digitally retouched or manufactured compared to SW:EP1. I suspect that FOTR would actually come out ahead.

I think Ep1 had more special effects. The entire thing was blue screen practically. BTW, a lot of the size difference were old fashioned eye and perspective tricks. Of course I ridiculed the poster for thinking it's all CGI! All CGI is something like Toy Story!!! Don't you see the difference? *rolls eyes* (we need one of those roll eye smilies damnit)

Yes I know the difference. I still think it would be interesting to see the comparison with Ep1.

BTW, I obviously didn't care for the movie and you did. I have refrained from crapping in your obviously deluded praise thread. Peace. 🙂
