Is longhorn going to be 32bit?

just a quick question.

Longhorn is the code name for MS's next OS, i know that.

is it 64bit only or is there going to be a 32bit version?

Well, most people upgrade their OS through buying a new computer. So I guess you have to look at the Intel timeline to see when they're going to have 64-bit chips as widely used as AMD does in retail.

At this point Microsoft has not specifically stated when either will hit the market. Although given that they are developing them side-by-side and the increase in popularity of x64 processors my guess would be that they will both be released within a fairly short time of eachother (if not at the same time).

I had heard a rumor that both 32 and 64 bit versions would be on the same disk, and you would be able to choose which you wanted (on 64 bit systems only, of course) at the time of installation. Whether there is any truth to this or not remains to be seen. :eek:

It would certainly make sense, since AFAIK, it will be a on a DVD.
