Is Logitech Z5500 speakers for $239.40 good deal?

Well, they're a good all around set especially with the included decoder, but it's average price, and sound quality isn't the greatest. Very powerful, though.

If that's shipped / with tax / no extra costs, that's pretty in line with when there's a good deal on them.

Search hot deals for z-5500 to compare what they've gone for in the past.

What do you mean by "speakers for surround sound"?

He may be talking about the quality of the satellites or subject matter... (are they good for music? movies? games?) or maybe... "Can I get better for my money?"

Also by feedback, he could mean noise feedback... but I doubt that one :)

More info would help michaelpatrick33.

What will they be used for?
Where will they be used?
What sound card/speakers do you have now?

The more info you provide, the better YOyoYOhowsDAjello can answer you :)

Sorry about the generality of the post. I have 2.1 speakers right now that I have had since circa 1999. I simply meant for music/games is this price reasonable for a good 5.1 system. I have an Audigy 2 at the moment. If it isn't a great deal than I can easily wait  because sound isn't critical on my system.

Yeah, they are reasonably priced for a solid 5.1 system.

There aren't a whole lot of $200+ 5.1 options out there for computer speakers, and these are a good bet.

Games are going to sound great and music should be a bit improvement too unless you have exceptionally amazing computer speakers from 1999.

This set has been down in the $220 shipped range before rarely, but $240 final cost is a good deal as well.

will this surround system fill a big room with sound? I'm looking to get rid of my crappy 1980's era speakers and amp in my basement home theater and I need something that will provide enough umph to fill a 35' x 15' room. And I don't wanna spend a kilobuck on big home theater speakers and another 400 on an amp.

My logitech z-5300's easily fill a room this size, and the room is not totally closed off, there is a large opening on one side.

the z-5500's will do you perfectly.

I don't think you're going to do better on a budget like this.

(for 5.1)

If you wan't *umph* to fill a 35' x 15' room, you might should look elsewhere. A pair of decent floorstanders and an inexpensive amp would fill up a room quite well.

If you really want to fill a large room, you are going to need large floorstanders with multiple drivers. Tweeters beam forward like a laser and midbass woofers disperse sound sideways. You NEED multiple woofers to *fill* the room. Just making a lot of localized noise is totally different; the physics of sound wave propogation is your limitation here unfortunately : P

would this be better to fill that room I mentioned a while ago than the z-5500? I'd like loud-assed movie noises.

Maybe somebody has a better ~$300 suggestion.

 I'll buy a $400 video card at the drop of a hat, but I'm trying to buy a surround system for peanuts.

If you are trying to "fill" a room with tiny satellites, the only way you can fool your ears is by getting stands and putting the drivers/tweeters at ear level. But then again I am guessing you are buying satellites because of your budget, not because you want to. In that case, given the expensive of stands, no, I don't think you can really fill the room with those things.

Maybe if you stack up some phone books to bring them to ear level as a ghetto measure.

I use mine in my living room (18x50+') and it fills the room nicely. I cracked a window in my kitchen with them (off the room), knocked stuff off shelves, pictures off walls, and the bass can be heard across the street.

I use one for my PC and the other for a dedicated HT set up and I couldnt be happier with the sound and especially the price I paid.

Cracked a window with your Logitechs eh? That's a pretty thin window and a pretty low resonance frequency : P
