Is Lite On any good?

I'm checking out CD-RW prices for a friend of mine and Lite On seems to be the best. However I know that getting into the value priced hardware can sometimes have disasterous outcomes. Anybody know anything about Lite On stuff, how well it works, hardware defects, horror stories? Also, what software should I get with it? I've read a couple posts about people having trouble with Adaptec Easy CD and some others. They all seems to point to the latest version of Nero as a good program. Thanks for the help.

I believe that the Lit-On 12x burner is a rebagged Plaextor, so it should be a good drive. i know form personal experience that in the past Lite-On CD-roms were pretty good. They had fast extraction and quick access times....

I bought the Creative 12/10/32 CDRW from Buy.com when it was the DOD and it is an AWESOME drive for 100 bucks. It is a Lite-On rebadge, and has worked flawlessly in my system. The NTI CD-Maker software that comes with it works so much better than EZ-CD, and has yet to produce a coaster.

I wouldn't buy another CDRW without Burn-Proof, and I am sold on Lite-On drives. I always meant to backup my MP3's, but at over 6gb and a 4x drive, I kept putting it off. At 12x I burned 700mb discs in a little over 6-7 minutes per. It also makes perfect CDDA discs that play in any machine and rip just as fast on the fly. EZ-CD music discs always were screwy in portable players, not so with discs burned with NTI. My 0.02, hope it helps. Mav

Use the search command...This has been asked at least once or twice weekly for like the last 3 months newegg had a screaming deal on it...

The "rebadged plextor" is a new one to me....I am not sure about this, may require a bit more research.

However the aopen 12x10x32x 1232a cd-rw at newegg for 99+7.00=106.00 is the best deal IMO. The aopen is rebadged ricoh with justlink (newer purnproof technology) and comes with nero 5.0 which can be upgraded to 5.5 for free...

The Lite-On is not a rebadged Plextor. Lite-On produces all their own equipment and then allows some other brands to rebadge (e.g. Creative). The Lite-On drives are good, I put one in a client's machine recently and it has worked falwlessly. There are reviews on the 16X product here. That Aopen that Duvie mentioned sounds like a good deal.
