hmm... ok... so i installed Redhat 7 on my machine... The installation was surprisingly smooth using only the 2 floppies to download and install redhat... quite amazing..
All hardware was auto-detected and worked right off-the-bat....
but the thing still is that i found it hard to install games/software etc... no nice installer etc..(i know i sound like a linux newbie.. ok..:)
and yeah.. my win98se works really fine...doesn't crash etc... and i used it for all sorts of shell replacements, webpage designing, surfing, games,, all sorts of nice freeware software...

so do you people think linux is worth the hassle.. for a home user...?

Depends on whether you want to be an appliance operator or somebody who knows whats going on with their machine.

Is Linux a replacement for Winders on most peoples computers? No.
Will Linux ever be as user friendly as Windows? Probably not.

I think its definately worth it if you want to do some exploration.. Using linux will help you very much with just learning the ins and outs of comptuers a lot more than windows could ever show you.
And if you want to make a webserver, linux is probably the way to go

Just my Opinion.

Go back into the install, and select upgrade, and look for a package called Gnorpm. Great Package manager, it is very user-freindly environment for managing RPMs. other than that, try thumbing thru some man pages, or checking redhat.com, there is a lot of info there. good luck.
