I'm thinking about buying a Vaio SR17. However, I heard from a friend that the light weighted laptop (about 3 lb) is more easily get frozen compared with those 6-7lb ones. Is that true? Have you had any comparisions?
Any comments and recommendations welcome! :)

????

Like out in the cold frozen?

Laptop size has little to do with stability.

With the smaller sizes (less than an inch thick) they are more prone to problems relating to heat. However, my friend has one and I've never had it freeze on me...

"More easily frozen?" ... Only if left outside :) In this case size doesn't matter! Vaio is a good laptop line. Because of the thinner body they are more readily cracked (as in oops what did I sit on?)or (it doesn't fly across the room like my frisbee). The only complaint I have heard of is the screen part tends to warp. Whatever you do, never everbuy a Compaq ... I have fixed too many! IBM surprisingly has a nice range of reasonably priced laptops, worth a look.

I don't think so, I have used some of the smaller ones without problems. And I second the "don't use Compaq, try IBM" recommendation.

I have a Toshiba Portege and it is solid as a rock. It dissipates heat better than most full size notebooks.

Also...one more vote for IBM (or Toshiba) and one vote against Compaq, Dell, Micron and Gateway notebooks.
