Is laser mouse really better than optical mouse?

I have MX1000. I have been using it for about 9 months so far. The more I use it, the more I wonder if Laser is better than regular optical.

I think I might be a bit too picky. Anyhow, here is what I notice. Since MX1000 is pretty heavy, if you leave it on your mousepad or desk for...let's say 1 min(before it goes into sleep mode), it kinda sticks to the mousepad or desk surface at this point. Now, you try to slowly(really slow) move the mouse again. You will feel the "sticky" feeling when you move it slowly. Many times, I notice the mouse pointer would randomly jump to a different direction than the direction that you move it to(it doesn't happen every time. I would say it happens once every 5 times). Then you continue to move it and everything is fine after that. The annoying part is that if you are in photoshop and you want to move the curor a pixel or 2, it will jump to a different place than where you would expect it to.

I thought I just have a bad mouse, so, I got a brand new replacement last week. Guess what, same thing. So, that's why I want to see what all the Mx1000 owners think about this. Are G5 and G7 any better for those who have G5 or G7?

I don't think that is the case. There is no lag whatsoever(at least I don't notice any). I think it is because laser doesn't like to be "bounced".

I've had similar cursor jumping problems with a standard optical mouse, and when it happens it always turns out that the cause of the problem is a peice of dust or lint stuck in the aperture that the light shines through. Removing it fixes things.

It is not my hand sticks to the mouse. It is the mouse feet stick to the mousepad or desk. Also, my mousepad is very clean since i wipe it off everyday. So, it has to be laser related. Unless I have such a bad luck that I get 2 bad mice in a row that behave the same.

OrooOroo, do you experience the same issue?

I have never experience this with all my optical mice before.

Maybe I am just too picky somehow ;)

I have tried different mousepads and they all have the same issue once in a while. Try paying attention to the mouse movement when you use your MX1000. You might notice what I found.

I am guessing its the mouse feet that are maybe worn down try getting some mouse skates for it.
