Is Larry Ellison a crack addict or what?

I just done reading an article about this nonsense with his hiring of an investigative firm to investigate the public relations behavior of Microsoft. This guy is way too bitter. He really needs to get a grip. He's gotta get over the fact that the concept of the NC is/was a failure.

Edit: Posted the message before I was finished typing it all :)

Yeah, something like out of a detective novel, the 2nd richest man in the world stalks richest man in the world...

So has MTV ever done a celebrity deathmatch with those two? That would be good for a few seconds humor :)

Celebrity Deathmatch! ROFL Good idea.

Seriously, is Oracle a publicly traded company? If so, I'd be REALLY PISSED if I were a shareholder and found out that this moron dropped a bunch of coin to have someone analyze Microsoft's public relations tactics.

That's not the half of it. The goons he hired dug through dumpsters looking for evidence. LOTS of dumpsters. When asked about that sordid detail, Ellison was completely un-apologetic.

You are talking about a guy who thinks he is a Samurai warrior for Christ's sake. He went out and had an 18th centry Samurai's castle shipped to The States. This is even worse than billg's lame-ass house of the future. I don't know what Ellison's deal is with Japanese stuff but it seems he is obsessed my the culture. The Sushi is always fresh in the Oracle cafeteria from what I hear.

yeah the guy is nuts. he really does think he is a samurai. his new house is going to cost something like $40 million because he is recreating a whole samurai village complete with ancient japanese styled roofs. what a nut.

Wow. I didn't know about all of this other stuff. He really is a total nut-job. Like I said, I'd be pissed if I were a shareholder.

I've always admired Ellison. He did it "My Way". He just felt Microsoft was using its political power and money to control the market and Congress in ways which weren't readily apparent to the casual observer. He was right.

On the other hand, I'm a Microsoft admirer as well. They have great products and have done much more than Oracle to bring the digital revolution to the masses.

Oracle did nothing illegal by the way. If I want to snoop through my neighbor's garbage, I can do so legally. My neighbors are pretty boring, so I won't have that on my agenda today! :p

Ellision fancies himself a player. I think he is over 50 and he still dates 22 year old women. I'll give it to him for that. He also knows how to dress and keep himself well groomed.

Gates, rich as he is, does not seem to know what personal hygiene is. I remember hearing that his personal assistant use to have to prod him to take showers, because he would sleep in his office and try to go to meetings in the morning without cleaning up. That's just nasty in my book.

Still, they are both freaks of nature and it really scares me that these are the two richest men in the world.

LMAO dwell - the sad thig is it's true. I gotta give it up to Ellison though. He knows how to spend his money, even if he is a little nuts.

For PR sakes though he should at least have been more apologetic.

Wait a minute guys ...

For all the people that say "I'd be pissed off blah, blah, blah ..."

Shut yer cakeholes!

If you were a shareholder, which i'm sure you aren't because of your reaction(s):

You would be on the ground begging to suck Ellison's sausage because he made you a fortune with Oracle's stock. Give it up for the man, sheesh!

Drop a "coin" my butt. What's the big deal spending chump change in the war against Micro$oft especially in the views of Oracle, the second largest software company in the world? This is war folks not some morality play here. Oracle has the chance to blow by M$ to be the most valued player in the world, a chance to bypass the regimentation that M$ has placed in society with it's overriding business practices. What does Oracle care about a bunch of teenagers on Anandtech think?

And people are getting all hot and sweaty over Oracle's hiring of a detective company? Big deal. Does anyone understand that it was M$ that hired supposedly neutral lobbyists to surreptiously go out and try to influence public opinion for M$? Hmmnnn, that sounds even worse. And because they were found out they said "What me? hey, blame Oracle, they found out about us! That's not fair!"

How come no one is getting all over that? Or is it all these bandwagon jumpers on this board so narrowminded that all they can handle is one morality powerplay at a time? So, is everyone all sympathetic for M$ now?

In addition, why is it that everyone gets all bug-up-their-butt when news like this comes out and gets all personal about how a person lives? Big deal! If I were worth 50 Billion, hey, i'd be all bizarre too. What the heck! Who cares if he imported a whole samurai fortress to California or wherever it is. The point is that: he can.

Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran when asked why rock stars date supermodels said "Because we can."

Stop bitching about others and do something about yourself. Ellison got that way because of his incredible smarts and business sense. He's not the perfect guy but it's chickencrap to take immature potshots at a guy who's successful when you're not. It's like being in the welfare line because of your own incompetence and laziness and seeing a guy rolling down in a nice car and saying that this person is lucky in life when s/he had to work their butts off to get there.

Give it up people.

Rant over.

bill_n_opus: Jeeze, we are just joking around. You're the one who seems to have the bug up his arse. Relax dude, it's going to a long weekend. Sit back and have a drink or something.

Someone sure as hell is a Larry Ellison groupie. As others have said, you really need to calm down, bill.

I work for a Fortune 250 company and am a shareholder as well in the same company. Our shareholders are really cranky about how money is spent. They scrutinize everything. That is my whole point. Regarless of the fortunes they have made, they are still sticklers when it comes to how the company spends its money. Most investors are like that. That is why they all like to read every bit of a company's annual report.

We consistently meet or beat our projections every time and the shareholders still want more. Personally, even if I made millions from my investment in a particular company who did something as off-the-wall as this, I'd be flipping out myself. How did this expenditure benefit the company? How did it contribute to the bottom line? How did it increase sales and or profits? It did none of these things. It sure as hell didn't decrease expenses either.

PCAddict: While I generally agree with your post, I know from years of personal experience with Annual Reports that they are almost entirely works of fiction. In fact, a Pulitzer should be given out each year to the corporation with the most creative Annual Report. Unless you see the audited financial statement, and all the notes and assumptions, you are reading mostly misinformation.

Yo, Willie, I can guarantee you that I'm not an AnandTech "teenager" and I still think the guy's a fruit. A rich fruit, yes, but still a fruit.

Good on him I say, afterall business is business, & business is just war by other means & as everyone knows there's no rules in war except the rules of the victor - afterall did Air Marshal 'Bomber Harris' of RAF Bomber Command get executed for turning 100000 citizens of Dresden to ash.

Really all Ellison did was dig up dirt on a few lobby groups such as th 'National Tax Payers Union' & the 'Association for Competitive technology' to show they were really MS fronts financed by MS. All bigbusinesses do these sort of things. I'm sure MS had it's own private dectective teams on permanent retainers, out there investigating & digging up dirt on Netscape/AOL/Time warner, Corel & Oracle, etc.
