It is a name brand. I have a single stick of 256MB Kingston Value PC100 (aggggg!) in my system. No complains. Ofcourse, with the price of Mushkin and Crucial ram, I would probably opt for one of those first.
Kingston Value Ram is not made by Kingston themselves, they outsource the assembly to save cost. Kingston is a good company and I would imagine that they use reputable suppliers. I think the gamble is in what type of chips the ram comes with. Kingston purchases chips from various mfg. so you never know what you will get. I bought some with Infineon chips and they are great. Some lesser quality chips will likely run at the rated speed but not much higher. Good luck.
I bought some last month from Outpost. I got Infineon chips. Some people got Nanya chips (which were unstable at PC-100 CL2). I guess it's the luck of the draw if you buy online.
Infineon has become Kingston's soul source for chips. i have friends that work at Infineon and have gottent the news straight from the horse's mouth.
