This stupid.medium sized mutt chased me while running on the street. If it bit me, hiw effective would kicking the dog in the face be, or stomach? I was thinking it would be my only defense other then picking the dog up by its legs and snapping them.

Obviously im going to gt bit to hell in the process.

If this were a rotweiller i would not try this, but this dog is big enough to easily break skin
so i would have to do something to defend myself

What dog attack defense should i employ?

if you kick it, kick it hard. make sure it freakin dies, otherwise those vets can charge a lot of fix the bitch and it can end up on you... OR you can use this

You'd be better off getting some pepper spray or something, lmao.

Lol yeah, thats a good idea, i didnt thinkbof that :)

I actually have a little clippy pepper spray i could use that my wife usually carries in her purse

But in all honesty, wtf do you do when you are being attacked with no defense? I had a dog guy tell me once he would grab the inside of the mouth and that would immobilize their bite ( like by grabbing lower jaw), sounded freaking ridiculous

You should really contact animal control, perhaps there are ordinances in the county / city pertaining to animal at large.

Depends on the dog I would guess. You could just piss it off. There was a lady walking her pitbull by our house, I was out watering the lawn and the dog came up snipping at me and I kicked it and oh damn it was on. Ended up going to the hospital to get stitches and the dog got put down.

I've had to break up dog fights before and I can tell you that kicking won't do anything to them if they are in attack mode. I was trying to break up a Jack Russell and a beagle. I kicked both of them as hard as I could (one even caught a little air) and they just ignored it. I've got some pretty powerful legs (8 years of being a lineman) and so I know it wasn't lack of power.

If the dog is just chasing you, ignore it. If it really seems like a menace, you would have better results peeing on it than kicking it. Try bringing some jerky with you next time. Instead of hurting it, you can make a friend!

If you kicked a jack russel or beagle as hard as you could, I'd hope they caught A LOT of air.

That being said, when I was younger our neighbor's dog, who knew me well, bit me in the nose once when they weren't home and I stopped by on my bike to pet him (apparently he was being protective). I kicked that dog (yellow lab) as hard as I fucking could and he retreated. Still barking and PO'ed, but he wasn't coming near me again.

Animals sense fear, and with an animal that has already set to attack you there's little you can do to deter it. If you get a dog down, you chase it and stomp, kick, whatever until it runs away or its dead. Don't give it chance to get back up.

On the other side of the coin pepper spray works well :)

they were locked at the neck. The jack was mine so I kicked him in the throat thinking that would make him stop but he just ignored it. The beagle was a fattie, so I punted him in the belly, he ignored that as well.

Dog fights are pretty nasty when they get serious.

Actually, this does somewhat work, If you place your fingers in between their canines and grab either their snot or their jaw, and just hold fast, they will start to pull back as hard as they can. That is a perfect opportunity to kick the crap out of the stupid animal.

However, I've never done this with a vicious dog, only one that is playing. (Minus the kicking the crap out of the animal part.)

Thats interesting, I've never seen a yellow lab that was aggressive in any sort of way. They are usually quite friendly to everyone.

As a dog guy, I can easily imagine being able to exert control over a dog through the face/jaw, but the problem is: actually doing it.

It works, and while I've never done it with a pure raging dog, it should work just the same... the issue is, pure rage mode equals a ton of raw muscle, energy, power.

While your at it, it's also the perfect opportunity to snap the neck. If it's a dog that looks like it shouldn't be given any more chances, go for it! And yes, I am serious - if a dog is attacking a human unprovoked, imho that = last straw.

Sort of my thoughts. I could see it being possible (making sure you jam your thumb into their mouth, and not a flat palm). But I don't know how effective it would be on a dog in attack mode. If you do it wrong, you'll get a nice hole in your hand.

If you're actually going to fight a dog, don't half-run away and then kick as it's on your heels. Dogs are very primal, even housedogs. You have to assert dominance. Take that stance of dominance and stare them down; don't flinch when they bark, look as big as you can, and if it comes at you, kick it as hard as you can.

another thing you can do is if the dog got your hand, instead of pulling, jam it down its throat. Dog's instinct is to pull, so if you push, you are not working against the dog. making it gag helps you free your extremity.

Of course you have to stay calm. Panic would just make it worse.
