I don't see them recommended much at avsforum for what it's worth. Mostly Harmon Kardon, Pioneer, Panasonic, Denon, Yamaha, etc.

I have seen the sovereign ones. Those are too much to handle because of all the components they support

They're OK, but on a budget I prefer Onkyo and Pioneer, and for a more expensive one I'd pick Denon or H-K, Yamaha.

Last time, I paid 250 for a Kenwood VR6060. I know they have the same type versions out there but with THX. I have visited their website, saw the specs on most of them.

Depends on what you mean by "good".

My guess is, if you need to ask that question, then a Kenwood would be just fine for you.

I have an older (2001) Sovereign-class Kenwood receiver (the VR-4090B - they didn't actually have the Sovereign name in those days). It's not bad. I got it for less than $400 from eCost, and felt it was a good deal (the retail was over $1K).

you could be right. I am thinking of upgrading everything in the new year like buying a HDTV, good speakers, receivers and other stuff.

Again, depends on what you mean by "good". Also on how "good" your budget will be.

I don't like to give too much advice on AT, but I'd suggest some of the other manu's that have been mentioned, unless you particularly like Kenwood's sound. (That being said, if they still use similar designs as in the past, their Sovereigns had great audio characteristics) Kenwood used to make some good stuff but have really shrunk in the marketplace these last few years after spreading themselves too thin...I just don't see them keeping pace with the Onkyos, Denons, Yamahas and H/Ks.

New...I'd say to audition a receiver if you can, but more than likely, look elsewhere.

I only recently delved in to home audio a couple weeks back. Bought a Panasonic SA-XR55 along with front & left floor standing speakers (will do surround later on). I've been pleased with it though honestly I haven't had much prior experience.

I too have one of these receivers. I have a pair of Klipsch F-3 speakers hooked up in front. Sounds great.

those panny's have been insanely popular...great deal. I considered fooling around with one for a backup/testing system but decided to try something more vintage. like, old school 40lb Sansui vintage

When I bought my kenwood 3+ years ago, it had the most options at the cheapest price, so I went with it, and its been a great reciever the modle number is VR-506. It had tons of options and all kinds of decoding properties. Very solid, I can crank the volume up quite load without and distortion or overheating. This unit will last me along time, and when I buy another receiver further down the road, I will consider a kenwood very much so.

I owned a kenwood until I got my Harman Kardon 435. Reliable little thing, just didnt' have all the customization I wanted.

I had a couple of their entry-level receivers a few years back. No complaints about either.
