Is Journey better on PS3 with online or PS4 without online?

I refuse to pay for PS Plus, but is the multiplayer important enough to Journey to where it's better on PS3 at 30 fps with multiplayer or PS4 at 60 fps without multiplayer? I have both consoles and have the game installed to each (you buy it for one console from PS Store and it's good for the other), and was thinking of playing this now after finishing Nioh and wanting to play a less hardcore game next.

No, Journey isn't worth PS Plus alone. But Journey is such an awesome game. Definitely a must play.

I played Journey and was online but...I don't know but I wasn't a fan, not a fan of Abzu either which I made the mistake of buying at launch. Blech

I was playing it yesterday and surprisingly you don't need PS Plus to play with others on PS4. I gotta agree with cmdrdredd though, I'm not getting the hype on this game. I played it for maybe an hour last night and I found it pretty boring. So I started playing What Remains of Edith Finch instead, and man that game is spectacular.

I got Journey as a "free" PS+ game, and my experience was much like yours. Played an hour, maybe an hour and a half, and haven't felt the urge to start it up again.

I decided to go back to it and enjoyed it. I like the second half of the game a lot more than the first. I'd give it a 6.5/10. I don't think it's anywhere close to as good as it's hyped up to be though. The reviews seem to have it around 9/10 like it's a must play, which I don't think it is. Now Edith Finch, that was rock solid 9/10 in my book.

If you guys don't finish Journey, it comes as no surprise that you're not "getting" it.

If you finish the game and still don't like it, I can respect that opinion as boiling down to different tastes. Until then, your opinion is based on incomplete information. Journey is a short enough game that I don't think you'd hate yourself or me [too much] for seeing it through to the end.

I loved Journey, personally. I've only played through it twice, but I enjoyed both playthroughs. I also loved Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and Gone Home. And I only recently finally completed The Last of Us, and I think it displaces Uncharted 2 for me as best game of the previous generation.

My tastes are all over the place, but I will generally like a game with well-executed mechanics and a great story. Story can trump mechanics, as I also enjoy some of the TellTale games. Journey does hit both of those criteria, for me.

I absolutely agree. And in some way I was reminded of "Brothers" too. These are not really games, but amazing experiences and I loved every bit of it. And boy the music, wow!

Reading this reminded me about Abzu so I purchased it tonight and I fucking love it. I played like 45 minutes and I really have no clue wtf the objective really is, but damn the environment in the game is incredible. The music is some of the best music I've ever heard in a game too. There is definitely some performance issues though, noticed quite a bit of framerate drop but only in certain spots.

Yes the music and environment were nice but the game itself didn't do anything for me. I guess I'm not into the games as art type of stuff.

I just finished Abzu and it's one of the best experiences I've had on PS4. It is just completely immersive and the sound is incredible in it, especially if you have a good HT system. I felt like I was in an orchestra half the game and some of the scenes with the really large creatures where the bass is rumbling is awesome. It reminded me a lot of scenes with big sea creatures that are in movies.

I didn't really "get" it even after beating it, and don't really know exactly what the story is. I kind of do but not fully. Had I known how short it was though I don't know if I would have spent $20 on it. I beat it in under 3 hours, so it was almost like paying $20 to see a movie lol.
