Is JonnyGuru winding down on reviewing power supplies?

So earlier I was reading a power supply review at Tom's, so I went to https://www.jonnyguru.com/ to see if they had reviewed the unit. I was surprised to see they only had one review so far for 2019 (April). I Googled to see if the site was getting out of reviewing units, and I came across a Reddit thread which stated the main reviewer (OklahomaWolf) had retired last November (Reddit Thread).

If this is the case, I will hate to see them stop publishing power supply reviews, as I've used them for many, many years.

I've used JG as a source of info on power supplies for nearly 20 years. I too have noticed that the reviews have been...sparse. Their website got hacked(?) I think a while back...things haven't been the same since.

PC building is a dying trade, all my friends, we used to build PC stating back mid 90s, some as a profession, all of them have stopped, most have moved to consoles or stopped playing altogether. With the base shrinking we will see more and more people either stop or sell their business to click baits and move on... it's sad but its the reality...

JonnyGuru works for Corsair now, and I am not sure what that means for his site. Probably nothing good. I have enjoyed the reviews by OklahomaWolf, irreverent but full of nerdy tech details. I'm not aware of any other review site which tests as in-depth... they'll be missed if really are no more.

i get the feeling JG has passed the torch/duties to other sites. there was a gamersnexus video a while back on JG teaching them how to use the power tester equipment they just bought. GN usually does pretty scientifically rigid testing on all their other stuff and with buildzoid's pwm reviews, they are first place i check for the nitty gritty details with proper explanations and no marketing buzzwords.

JG also did an interview with Gordon at pcworld. if you want to be safe in your psu purchase choice then go for LLC resonant topology.

If memory serves...and sometimes it does...other times, senior moments kick my ass..Jonny Guru has worked for Corsair for several years...maybe longer. I think he stopped doing reviews for his site over 5 years ago, leaving th at to OW...who retired almost a year ago.
I know there are other tech sites that do PSU reviews...I'm not sure ANY of them do as in-depth of reviews as OW and his crew ever did.

In my estimation ...
Power supplies have come a long way since he started reviewing them. Nothing like having your product under a public microscope to make you shape up.

Maybe we are at the point where any name brand PSU can provide the full stated power, will last for many years, and won't kill your PC when it goes out. As long as the unit can function within the ATX spec, I guess that is really needed. I will say I have noticed Tom's is usually pretty tough on their PSU reviews. Most review sites will really like a particular unit, and Tom's will absolutely destroy it (EVGA G5 is the latest example of that).

Maybe all that's left to really worry about with power supplies is efficiency, noise, and how good the manufactuer's RMA service is (if needed).

Maybe someone can instead start reviewing the $40 no-name 850w power supplies on Amazon. At least that could be very entertaining. :p

Kind of remember something on his store about 2 years ago saying he is handing off reviews to some other dude who may keep doing them or may not keep doing them.
Sounded like new career was taking too much of his time and doing reviews just wasn’t worth it at this point in his life.

Yeah, I guess all good things eventually come to an end. People's lives change, and next thing you know they are gone (e.g. Anand, Kyle Bennett, Thomas Pabst).

All the OGs are leaving hardware news / reviews.
