River was good. He sucks.

Juaquim has had a much longer resume, with much more depth, serious recognition, awards, .

It was kind of neat to once think of Juaquim as that cliche'd younger and less talented brother of the pariah that died tragically young...but that was more than 15 years ago. What did River actually do, anyway? Young Indy in the Last Crusade, Stand by Me, and snorting coke with Depp in LA?

It's a completely stupid statement, disproved by, well, evidence.

Anyway, the whole Letterman fiasco was part of his supposed retirement from acting...to start a rapping career, was it?

He was ok in walk the line, but meh in Gladiator.

He is meh with a longer resume. And he wouldn't be famous without his dead brother.

maybe it lit a fire under him, who knows. regardless, his work is far more impressive. It's there we can see it. "What could have been" is completely useless in such arguments.

Mickey Rourke was the next DeNiro--then burned out fast, disappeared, started doing the booze, powder, talking to dogs and whatever, then suddenly emerged again 2 years ago. No one would have ever expected that, but that's life.

what we do know, however, is that this one guy is dead. the other guy isn't, what one did compared to what the other did....well, the evidence is clear as day, really.

James Dean died too young, they say. What he did was revolutionary in his time, maybe, but not exactly great compared to his contemporaries, not at all. Brando out-classed him at the same time. Dean had a pretty face, and could hold a role....that's pretty much it. In retrospect, his death was a shame at the time because what people wanted him to be, not because of what he was capable of.

stand by me is spectacular. joaquin was fucking great in Walk the Line.

and amazing in Gladiator. Admit it: you fucking loathed that bastard! and that's what matters. ;)

I haven't seen him in the other movies, but I don't think anyone could have done a better job with that role.

What is the Letterman fiasco?

This.

OK, I just googled it and got a fuckload of results.
Apparently he went on Letterman with dark glasses and beard giving one word answers and being a total cockmongler.
Eventually David Letterman learned that the dude plans to give up acting for hip-hop.
Letterman closed by saying "Joaquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here tonight."
