Unless you have a good personal relationship with him, I'd still address him in more respectful terms.

meh, at my last job my boss spent most of the day walking around the halls and asking people what they were doing, so I ran into him several times a day. I saw no need to say hello more than once.

I'm more of a, "Hey, how's it going kind of person.", which gets either a hey, or a how's it going for you, or when something's going on, a hey did you hear...response.

If you know him well enough, otherwise a variation of "hello" and "sir" can be used.
