is it worth upgrading to a 5870 from a 5850?

it's 150 there for the 5870, i'm sure most people are gonna say wait for the 7xxx series. but that is gonna be more than 150 for the card.

i was going to just toss the 5850 into my back up rig for now.
so waste of $150 or worth it?

i mainly play world of tanks and bf3 right now

Available for $5 less in the Hot Deals section, but this is pretty hot too.

Your GPU is already within 5% of a 5870. I'd say you won't even notice the difference. I'd only do it if you seriously have a use for a 5850 in your backup box.

Otherwise, wait, but if you can't wait, crossfire! You'll get 85% scaling in BF3! Your PSU is borderline (49a on 12v rail...hmmm, it'll probably do, but you'll need to run PCIe/molex adapters...maybe check your power draw now and see if you have about 200w of headroom...that i7 is probably sucking down power).

you can OC your 5850 and exceed the performance of the 5870 (stock of course). not worth it.

That's close, but the ones that came with my retail box cards only have one pcie connection. Hey it's the holidays...if you end up going this route, I'll send you two adapters for the price of shipping ($5).

In other news, this will help too:

World of Tanks even at 1080p will not cripple that 5850. Are you having problems in games?

no a 5870 is more like 10%-15% better than a 5850. I love mine, plays everything i throw at it even BF3 & Crysis2 on max settings (but without AA). its up to OP, but i'd sell my 5850 & go with the 5870.:)mind u i got mine used for $175 about a year ago.:)

It depends on how much can you sell the 5850 for. If you can get >100$ then you're probably good to go. If you pay more than 50$ for 10-15% improvement(at stock clocks) it surely doesn't make a lot of sense. I would also consider the over-clocking headroom the 5850 has on 5870.

Spend that same amount on a second 5850 and you'd spank a 5870.

I agree.
I just bought another 5870 for Crossfire myself. I've yet to test it, though, but should be good.
