Hi all, i havent much followed what the latest and greates hardware is and was hoping for a sugestion. Right now i have a Pentium 4 3.0 800 FSB version. Has 1 gig or ram relativly new Maxtor 300 gig 7200 rpm 16 meg cache . serial hard drive plus 3 other hard drives , running win XP pro. Was thinking of adding another gig or ram BUT was thinking would it be worth upgrading the motherboard/CPU to a new Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4 with 2 gig of ram. I would also get new video card as i have AGP would need PCI express.

Would i see much speed increase from my P4 3.0 I mostly run Photoshop CS2, and Capture one,, these are photo editing software. I dont do games any more I dont plan i upgrading to Vista OS any time soon, not for at least a year.

So is it worth upgrading, any noticable speed improvemnt.

Buy your new machine when you plan to go Vista. Probably by that time there will be C8Dz =oP

If you can bare with your setup don't even upgrade the ram and to answer your question yes there will be a pretty notice-able improvement. You will find things much snappier when mutli-tasking. Presently about 3x faster if you were video editing/encoding than what you're running but you would be coughing up a 1k worth.

I almost have the same PC as yours and decided to upgrade. I bought it 3 years ago, and i think i did a big jump.

You will see a huge increase is speed with a C2D, especially if you overclock.

Am a little confused on what you said. You had my system like i have now, a Pentium 4 3.0 gighertz and you upgraded to a Intel core duo 2.4 three years ago? They didnt have a Core duo 2.4 three years ago?? Did i misunderstand and what you menat was you had a P4 3.0 three year ago and you recently upgraded to a Intel Core Duo 2.4 and thats much faster than your three year old P4 3.0 was??
