Is it worth upgrading from x850 256MB PCI-Express to X1900 512MB PCI Express?

I have some extra $$ to spend on upgrading, but I feel my PC is still pretty decent - the only thing I thought might make my Oblivion experience more tolerable (and stutter-free) is a memory upgrade (from 1GB to 4GB) or a video card upgrade (from x850 to x1900).

Is it worth it? Would it be better to max out my memory instead of upgrading the video card?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks:)

Well, in pretty much all of the benchmarks the X1900 series is the best performer for Oblivion. So I don't think you can go wrong picking one up. If you wanted to upgrade memory I would suggest 2 gigs, but not 4. I have 2 gigs with a 7900GT and even oblivion doesn't use all of my memory.

4 Gigs is a bad idea for an AMD system, P4 it's not a problem, but won't give any real benifits for gaming at least.

What you really want is a benchmark showing the X1900XT and the X850 against each other...

X850Pro is prolly a bit slower than a 7600GT so look at the dif between those two cards and you'll get an idea of the difference. You could also save some cash by grabbing a 7900GT, oc'ing it, and getting another gig of ram.

ATi is much better suited for oblivion than nvidia. maybe u can upgrade to 2gb's of ram for now and grab an x1900xt once u have the money for it, or do both if u have enough

personally i'd wait for a directx 10 capable card before upgrading. I think they're supposed to be here this fall and I think your X850 could probably last till then.
