is it worth upgrading from a GeForce to a GeForce2 ?

The title says it all I got the Asus Geforce 6800DDR right before summer and was really WOWed by it.

but the fan went bad and so I sent it back, so while I was waiting for it to return I picked up A Voodoo5, which I liked...but...to me the GeForce is WAY better for gaming!

and also the color on my Geforce was much, much better. So, I finally got my 6800 back and installed it and I was WOWed again by its power and awesome color which on my system
the Voodoo5 lacked.

Ok, so where am I going with all of this ?? I took out my V5 and sold it to a friend at work and am using the 6800. And I am seriously thinking about getting the Geforce2.

I have read many reviews about the Geforce 2 and its actually a little faster then the card that I am using...but... it performs VERY fast at higher resolutions, drool-drool

Well, what do ya think. As of right now I am using a P3-550 but next week my 800 will be coming in and I will be ready to Rock-N-Roll.

if you have a geforce ddr and wiling to pay 300$ for 15% aditional performance then go for it.The fact you are actualy asking this makes me wonder if you are statisfied with the performance you have right now, I thnk you have a card witch has overkill performance already so why bother upgrading? If I were you I would get a faster cpu before buying a 300$ video card.

I don`t know which crack head place that guy is refering to for the price of a GF2, but on the buy/sell forums GF2's are going for ~$175. If i were you i'd skip this generation and wait for the NV20 or Radeon 2.

Hummm... 15% ??? more like 25-30% also to make economics on this question sell the ASUS 6800 for $125+ then deduct that from the current lowest price in the buy sell trade forum ($165 NOT $300) and you end up with a kick@ss card for about $40 the math is there just look for yourself... Also an NV20 will set you back a lot more unless you wait for the next generation to come out... One more thing the 64meg versions of the GF2 GTS are going for $245 (shipped) you might get around $145 for your card and add $100 and get a card that overclocks even better than the 32meg versions...

and I know just how good of a gaming card that the plain-Jane GeForce is, so how much more so with the GeForce2 !!! Yeahhhhh...

Also, just to make the equation a little more difficult, there appears to be another release of the GF2 called the "3D Prophet II GTS Pro " which looks really sweet

a few points about the 5500:

1) The new drivers (1.03) give significant performance increases, if you look around in the drivers and tweek them (which most webistes have not done at all)

2) the 5500 has a MUCH MUCH different gamma setting than the GeForce cards. You must turn the gamma down, otherwise the 5500 will seem very washed out, coloration-wise.

3) The 5500 overclocks very very well, and you get a very noticeable performance-boost from a rather small overclock

The Geforce GTS2 Ultra chipset is the one that will come out soon on video cards made by different manufacturers. The &quot;3D Prophet II GTS Pro&quot; is just Guillemot's card using that chipset.

What I'm trying to say is that there will be different companies selling video cards with the GTS 2 ultra chipset. You made it sound like it was only Guillemot. Besides, the card is the same as the GTS2. The only difference is that it's running faster. The GeForce2 GTS runs at a default core frequency of 200 MHz, the Ultra is runnningat 250 MHz core frequency.

core frequency means nothing it's all memory bandwith the ultra is probably just about the same speed at 220mhz core and 250 the memory is the botleneck the core mhz is just marketing
