Is it worth unlocking my Athlon XP so that I can run it on the 166FSB?

How much of a performance improvement will there be? I am running an XP 1900+ on a KT333 board with PC2700 samsung memory.

i really like the performance gain i got when i unlocked my XP and went with a 166mhz fsb

but what board do you have? not all kt333 boards have the 1/5th pci divider, meaning not all of them can run that speed and be stable

Cool. I just managed to find some of that silver conductive ink on the forums here, I lucked out. I'm hoping for a 200mhz FSB, nevermind 166 🙂. It's all a matter of whether or not my PC2700 Samsung can handle it. Thanks for the info...I wasn't sure that this mod would be worth it.

its always worth it to unlock.. weather your board has dividers or not..........the higher the fsb the better.....😉

mine is unlocked, runs great, 7993 3dmark with a gf3 ti 200
166fsb (xp1600oced to 1667mhz @default voltage) , 2.5 2-6-2 1T 2.6V samsung

i want those 1/6 dividers..... want 200fsb

8k3a does have 1/5 dividers, that mean you can set the fsb to 166 as soon as you get the board, like i did.

here is a vote to lower multiplier and up the FSB. between equal clocked chips with different FSBs, the higher FSB chip will win in any benchmark, as long as the memory and PCI bus can keep up and don't crap out. because you have PC2700 memory and a 1/5th divider, i think you are a go.

how did you overclock your chip so high at default voltage? my lousy 1900+ won't post at anything higher than spec. it's an agoga. you lucky dog.
😛
ps. how high can the samsung pc2700 go? it's a single sided 256mb chip.

i've seen a few reviews getting at least 200mhz at aggressive settings, i've even seen som people on this forum with it at 225 @cas 3
