Is it worth trying to OC a P3 on a BH6 w/ PC100?

I'm currently running a C2-566 @ 952 @ 1.8 rock solid on a BH6, with 1 64 MB Micron -8e PC100 (the good stuff) and 1 64 MB Siemens PC100 (dont know how good it really is), its running at CAS3 right now.

Just wondering: is it worth getting say, a P3-550 or a 650 or a 700 and going for 133 FSB with the PC100 or would I be wasting two good cpus? (One would be used, one wouldnt, and if I couldnt, the P3 would go to waste :( ) And I dont want to buy PC133 because I'd be wasting my PC100. Any suggestions is good, thanks!

It really depends on what type of PC100 SDRAM you have. If you have some good PC100, it might be worth doing. I tried it, and it worked just fine.

Good luck,

My cas2 pc100 made by motiel vatalic (spelled way-ass wrong) can clock up to 140mhz. This is the good one out of it's batch, though.. All the others made it up to at least 133mhz cas3

If you can run cas2@112mhz, I'd expect you'd at least be able to get to 124mhz@cas3.

If you're using an older bh6, it also may not have the 1/4pci divider - so 133mhz bus won't work very well for you.

I dont know the answer to your question but would you be interested in selling that celeron at 952MHz?

my bh6 1.1 (summer '99) with micron pc100 -8e is rock stable at 970/139 with my coppermine 700e (standard heatsink + 6800rpm single fan).

memory is stable up to 142, but i haven't yet tested the 994/142 in a long term 'cause this frequency require a 1.8-1.85V and i dont have any information about the cpu temp.

the bh6 is not the perfect oc board,
cause you can't monitor the cpu temp,
but it's a decent solution for coppermines.

[i'm waiting for a be6-ii 2.0 with ata100 for heavy overclockings]

yr siemens sdram should have infineon chips (infineon is a division of siemens).
infineon usually produce good mem chips.
just FYI.

ride - using the MSI Master slotket

Kog - it runs at CAS2 fine, I don't have Q3 installed or any games for that matter but it runs benchmarks fine and doesnt crash in the few days I leave it running straight. I have the 1.01 so I prob dont have the 1/4 divider :(

zogg - if I do go for the P3 the 952 is up for sale :D

garr - sweet, I haven't checked the actual RAM for the markings but I'll try that

the latest bios for yr 1.01 should set the 1/4pci setting for 133+mhz fsb.
but i'm not sure at 100%.
(use the 'search', there are hundread of post about it).

Typed to you on a PIII450@600 (4.5x133) on a BH6 1.0X with 128MB PC100 Hitachi RAM ;)

Garrison is correct. Flashing to the SS bios on a BH6 rev 1.01 will enable the 1/4 PCI/FSB divider on that board. It will still be listed as a 1/3 divider in the bios, but it will run at 1/4.

Good luck,
