Hi

I have a mini led 1000 IPS monitor and I found good discount on OLED monitor but is it worth upgrading ? I use my PC for both coding and gaming.

Thanks

Probably not, unless you want deep blacks but to truly appreciate them, you need to be in a dim environment with bias lighting. OLEDs are all about vividness and excellent contrast but ambient light kinda ruins it to the point where VA and maybe IPS may look not that different from OLED.

While I have not used an OLED for coding, I did my research as I'm in the same boat and decided against an OLED for two reasons:

- text clarity
- burn-in /babying the monitor

Yes we can see from monitors unboxed that your really have to torture the thing but it will burn in if you don't baby it and have a lot of static content on it for hours a day. My current display is >10 years old so I don't plan to spend >$400 to have to buy a new once in 3-4 years already again. plus my old one I can "sell" or donate to someone in need. a burnt-in OLED will be e-waste.

I do have an oled tv, so I do not consume movies or such on my display.

How is the picture and text ?
Sorry I meant for watching movies and series and TV. SO i don't care that my PC display isn't "true black" and not as "vibrant" or whatever. If I watch a space movie, it's on the oled TV. Your mileage may vary. consuming movies on the PC display would swing my decision towards OLED. I think I have never really seen text on the OLED TV and it's also an older model from I think 2018. For a TV it's good. Only complaint I have: glossy + low brightness. Even on slightly cloudy day, blinds must be shut for any dark content.

That's really old. Current ones easily hit 1000 nits in highlights. I remember my LG C8 (haven't turned it on in 3 years. Need to find its remote) would even get a bit uncomfortable to watch during scenes where the entire screen lit up.

Unless you are bothered by blooming, halos on your mini-LED why switch?

Also why not keep your current monitor and use that one for productivity/web type stuff and use the OLED for gaming/video.

When I get an OLED that is my plan, keep LCD for productivitiy/web, and use the OLED for gaming/video. That way burn is a complete non issue, and you get OLED blacks where you really need them.

Text is fine on QD-OLED i have the 49" Compared to the VA panel next to it, 34" it is clearly a better experience.
I game on the OLED, leave pc on almost all the time, monitor is set to go off after 30 mins or an hour if hour is an option. I'll run the OLED care option on the display usually once a week, when I can remember, only takes 5 mins or so. Not long at all. I use a shifting background color theme. Also dark mode wherever I can.

My room is bright enough in midday to not need to turn on the room light. Usually play at night though playing during day hasn't been an issue. Its not the G9 but it does use the samsung panel. 240hz. They also have a 144hz version.

QD-OLED will be the Samsung made panels, WOLED will be the LG and they just released a new one but it wouldn't be considered a deal. Forget the acronym.

Here is a SS of CMD prompt so you can see the text. Ill try to get a black text on white also.
Display settings are at 100% or default. 5120x1440p res.

EDIT: the white background looks crisper than what this SS looks like. IDK compression?
