Hi all,

Need you'all opinion.

GIGABYTE GV-R787OC-2GD = 250$
660Ti GIGABYTE GV-N66TWF2-2GD GeForce GTX 660 Ti = 280$

660 Ti and HD7950 out my budget.

Is it good to buy a 7870 OC instead of 660 Ti as I have seen the 7870 slightly lacks behind 660Ti as per http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/647?vs=548

For Cry engine games the the AMD always has more FPS than the nvidia, don't know why??

guess anandtech does not consider the OC versions in benchmarks, I think the OC 7870 will perform neck to neck with 660 Ti??

To Note: Even though the price difference in US and other countries be very little of only 40$ but in India this varies near 70-80$ between these cards.

My choice is always the nvidia 660 Ti bcoz of its new gen processor and Physix processing and awesome tessellation quality. (Need more light on this)

hope I get directed towards perfect bang for money card.

Thanks!!

Go for the 7870 XT (Tahitit LE) versions. It is a cut down 7950 and is faster than 7870 and will be inside your budget. If the saving going to this card is not that much then I would advise sticking with the 660 Ti as you clearly prefer PhysX as an option.

blazing fast reply, thanks!!

I am preferring the Gigabyte OC version as it has 1100 mhz clock and has 3 fans, looks awesome too? and can you tell me what is the (Tahitit LE) edition?

7870 LE or XT is based on the Tahiti GPU rather than the Pitcairn GPU. AMD really did shoot themselves in the the foot with the naming system thie round. If they had named Tahiti LE 7930 it would have avoided this problem :)

Can you link to the Gigabyte OC version you are referring to please?

7870 is a great card and oc it equal and passes 660 TI; but 660 TI overclock tends to put it a little faster.

Things get hazey with 7870 TX - this beats TI at level and at over clock usually.....

Usually slightly cheaper and with 2 free games...its hard to recommend 660 TI right now....

That's the one I'm looking at getting right now after the money sucking car gets fixed :)

Not sure why AMD decided to do this. ATI had the 5830, this should be called the 7930 you would think. All it does is confuse the buyer, especially since every partner calls it something different -LE - XT - Black edition - ugh.. It is an awesome card though. Very nice numbers in the [H] Review.

HD 7870 Tahiti LE is a new SKU made from disabling 512 stream processors (sp)and 128 bit memory controller from Tahiti chip which powers HD 7970. so HD 7870 Tahiti LE has 1536 sp running at 975 mhz vs 1280 sp running at 1000 mhz on HD 7870 based on Pitcairn chip . 256 bit memory at 6 Ghz vs 256 bit memory at 5 Ghz on HD 7870 Pitcairn. so 20% more sp and 20% more bandwidth. at same clocks around 10 - 13% faster. on par with HD 7950(800 mhz) and GTX 660 Ti. overclocked to 1.2 ghz matches HD 7970(925 mhz) .

Definitely agree with what everyone is saying - go with Tahiti LE or 660 TI. Both cards are equal in speed so go with whichever has the better bundle for you or is cheaper (whichever you prefer).

Stock they are very close. The 7870 LE OC's far better and has a better bundle (imho at least) Plus its substantially cheaper.

Likely for promo purposes. Calling it a 7870 means they don't have to include 7900 promo packages. It does create confusion though with Crossfire, which is bad.

Obviously they like you guys more. ;)

Haha maybe just maybe ;)

But honestly get the 7870 XT/LE with the game bundle; its cheaper and ends up a hair faster than 660 TI after OC....

As I said its hard to recommend the 660 TI right now......specially in the UK

Cheapest on ebuyer for 660 TI is 218.99
Cheapest 7870 XT 180.......:)

I'm sure somebody will be along shortly with a frame time graph or 2 to challenge your recommendation :ninja:

No, that is a normal 7870 that is factory overclocked. Looking through the website you used, the only 7870 Tahiti I could find is out of stock, but here is the link :http://www.flipkart.com/sapphire-hd-7870-xt-boost-2-gb-gddr5-graphics-card/p/itmdhwhubdaf5ds3

The easiest way to tell if it is the LE/XT/whatever edition is that it has 1536 stream processors.
