Is it worth the $ to go from a 17" to a 19" monitor?

I was just wondering if the extra 2 inches was worth it. I don't want to spend a whole lot of money. I was looking at the Samsung 955DF that they are selling at Best Buy for $299.99 after mail-in rebate. What do you all think.

If you got the money, looks like a good deal. I'd check it against pricewatch to make sure first.
I'm running a 17", the move up from 15" was well worth it. I imagine that a 19" would feel the same way--just awesome. :)

I went to a 19" from 17" about a month ago. Both monitors are high quality and have excellent pictures. I did not really "need" a new monitor, but I got a good deal on the 19"er so I bought it. Following is my experience:
* The 19" being larger required me to raise my chair or lower the desktop for comfortable viewing.
* The 19"er made me feel like I had the screen right in my face.
* The 19"er requires more eye movement to see everything in full screen mode.
* Some applications are more comfortable viewing in a smaller 17" size window instead of full screen.
* The 19" burns more electricity (more heat) and is heavier.
* The 19"er allows for better use when running several open windows at one time, however if you run this way, you might be better off with a 21"er.
* Games are nice on the 19"er, but some games only go up to 800x600 or 1024x768 so they will be more grainy when open to full screen.

I'am still using the 19"er and I like it, but it took about 3 weeks to get used to it. However, I could have lived with the 17"er and still be happy. If your monitor needs replacement, consider a 19"er, but also look st how it will be used. If you do buy one, get a good quality one. Buying a cheap one with a poor picture will end up being a regret.

Yes.

I just went from a 17" Acer (curved) monitor to a Samsung 955DF (mine was $329.95-$50MIR = $279.95 at Beast Buy 2 weeks ago).

It's not just the extra 2 inches - the flat screen makes a world of difference (especially if you spend a lot of time in front of your screen). It is not as significant as upgrading from 14" to 17" but very worthwhile.

EDIT: In reference to the above post - you sit further back from your monitor with the larger screen. Yes, it takes some getting used to (but for me it was very worthwhile - less eyestrain).

Love my 19, the samsung 19s are even nicer.

If you have to money to blow I would say yes, but if not any your taxing your plastic then I would say no, I use a 17 at work all day and it would be fine for anything I could do at home.

If I were you I would save up more for a 21, I install alot of those (crappy CTX) but the size alone is massive and impressive, someday when my 19 blows up I am going to at least go 21, just excellent.

Boy!If those 2 inches are worth it (I think they are),then I don't even imagine the feeling I'll get when I'll upgrade from this crappy 14" monitor I have to the 22" one :) This will be in a month or two,however...

Well,an advice: If you can wait, save a little more money and buy a 21-22" flat screen CRT monitor.

Good Luck!
