Is it worth replacing e2180 with e6300?

Right now I have an e2180 at 3.5ghz. Someone was selling an e6300 on craigslist for $30. Would it be worth getting? e6300 has 2mb cache like the e4xxx series, and has the VT ability that's normally disabled in e2xxx/e4xxx. But the multiplier is only 7x, so it seems that the max speed I could overclock it to might be so much lower than my current CPU that it wouldn't be worthwhile.

You probably won't see a big difference by going from the e2180 to the e6300, in fact, you may not even be able to overclock it as well as you have now. I would stick with what you have. (unless you want to build a cheep computer)

VT, especially early VT, is not as a feature you'd desire over raw mhz. 30 bucks though, something sounds wrong with it. Ask for a demo first.

I'd buy it and sell it to me for $40 :)

you'd be amazed at what you can find on craigslist - got my semi golden cpu on there for cheap cheap cheap (it make those $140 E8400 guys jealous ;) )

likely you're better off with keeping your current processor as it clocks well with your current setup

for me personally I'd buy it and test it out just for kicks

3.5 on the 2180? That's sweet, dude. Stick with it or get an E8400. Forget about the 6300.

I agree.
Unless you want a chip lying around for emergencies, keep what you got.
I got an E6300 & the best i've been able to do is 3.2.
